Recently I completed ASTD’s Social Media for Learning certificate program, facilitated by Jane Bozarth. Here are a few of the things I learned:

  • We should often ask ourselves, “what would I do if I couldn’t fail” and then go for those things.
  • When considering social media as a part of any learning intervention, answer the following questions: what is the goal? What gap will this help bridge? What tools do I currently have that could do this? What tools would be available with minimal effort?
  • When approaching IT, always come with the preceding questions answered … at least the first three, then see if they come up with a solution so they’re less likely to say “no.”
  • Break rules.
  • Even if something doesn’t involve a training solution, the training team should try to be involved when improving and sustaining performance.
  • “Trust is cheaper than control.”
